5.3 HISTOLOGICAL STUDIES
Three years after implantation, Biofibre® are surrounded by hyperplastic epidermis (pseudoinfundibulum) both at the level of the papillary layer of the dermis and in the uppermost part of the reticular dermis.
Within the pseudo-infundibula a compact keratin layer adheres closely to the fibres. In the middle and deep reticular dermis, the fibres are surrounded by a small amount of focally granulomatous chronic infiltrate. In the deepest dermis and hypodermis, the fibres are surrounded by fibroplasia and no inflammatory infiltrate is noted.
